We have been asked if the ES62's are as good as the
US64 for battery charging?
If you use a MPPT Charge Controller such as a Morningstar Sunsaver, Outback or a similar charge controller, you connect two ES62 in series which increases the current from 12volts to 24Volts.
The MPPT controls the charge current to suit a 12volt system (@14.5volts). Which means you do not over charge your batteries but gives you the maximum amount of charge throughout the day even in low light.
Example: If the sun light levels fall and the two 12 volt panels (in series) were only producing 7 volts each, the regulator would still be providing 14 volts to your batteries (2x7volts=14volts)
A normal 12volt solar panel system could not charge a 12volt system at 7volts as most batteries can only be discharged to 10.5 volts meaning your solar panel may as well not be there. By connecting the solar panels in series to 24 volts and using the MPPT regulator you are able to charge your batteries even in these lowlight conditions.
This gives you the best possible output and battery charging from your solar panels in low light or shaded conditions, even out performing the US64's.
